Makoto Takeuchi

Born in Takasaki, Gunma, Japan

In 1996, Takeuchi moved to Tokyo, where he worked in prop styling and at video production companies, while also participating in independent film and theater productions.
In 2000, inspired by filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, he relocated to New York. He worked as a production staff member on student and independent films, and at the same time joined Aki-Ology Design Inc., led by Watoku Ueno, where he was involved in stage set design as well as Ueno’s original theatrical productions and puppet shows.
During this period, he studied photography in the Commercial Photography program at LaGuardia Community College.

After graduating, he began working as a commercial photographer, primarily focusing on interior photography.
Through many years of living abroad, his interest in his cultural roots and Japanese traditions deepened, leading him to return to Japan in 2011, the year of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

After returning, he worked as an assistant to photographer Sadamu Saito in Tsukuba. This experience sparked a strong interest in architectural photography, and he was deeply influenced not only by Saito’s approach to photography as a form of expression, but also by his attitude toward the act of photographing itself.
Currently, Takeuchi works mainly in commercial photography, undertaking projects such as food and facility photography for resort hotels operating nationwide, as well as architectural completion photography.
